I LOVE Apothecary jars and use them around my home all year long. The only thing that changes throughout the year is what I put inside them. When it comes time to decorate for Christmas, I simply just swap out the items that are in them and replace it with items for the holiday. Perhaps you also love the look of them, but struggle with what to fill them with. Hopefully after this read, you will be able to use at least one of the ideas that I am going to share with you.
If you have never invested in any Apothecary jars, I will share with you where I bought mine for minimal cost. However, most of the tips that I am going to share with you can also be put inside a glass vase or cylinder to get the same effect. It’s best to use a few different shapes and sizes. If all the jars are the exact same size and height, it won’t look as interesting. If you have been following my blog for a while, you already know that I am what you call a “bargain shopper.” Here’s the deal. I love to change up my decor every now and then and if I always purchased my items from stores that I love (like Pottery Barn and Frontgate), I would not be able to justify to my husband why I’m purchasing another throw blanket this season, when I already have three. It’s not to say that I won’t ever “splurge” on an item every now and then, because I do. But I leave those “splurges” for items that are unique and harder to come by. Apothecary jars are not an item that you would be able to tell whether it’s from Pottery Barn or from Ross. The reason I am telling you this is because I already had a few Apothecary jars in my collection before I started decorating this season. However, I really wanted to add a couple more shapes to my collection and was able to do so for under 35.00 by purchasing them at Home Goods.
What I love about glass jars and vases is that it really doesn’t take too much effort to make them look beautiful. One of the easiest and inexpensive ways to fill them is with ornaments. Depending on what your color scheme is, buy a variety of sizes in the colors that you are decorating with. I find that round ornaments work best to fill in the space. I also like adding fairy lights inside mine so they “light up” in the evening. The fairy lights that I own have a timer in them so they automatically turn on in the evening and shut off after 6 hours. I also invested in some faux snow a couple seasons ago and I am still using the same batch! If you bury your lights beneath the snow, it will make your snow illuminate and looks quite lovely! You don’t even have to add anything else to it and it would still look beautiful. Another way I dress up my jars is by putting greenery, pine cones, or floral picks inside them. It’s best to not over-crowd your jar or mix too many different categories all in the same one. Keep it simple. It will look more elegant this way. If you decorate with traditional colors like red and green, you may want to put candy canes or wrapped peppermints in one of your jars for fun! I hope that this inspired a new idea for you!
Happy Decorating!
