Aside from my Christmas tree, I love the way that lighted greenery can transform an area of the home. It doesn’t need to be fancy or with all the ornaments, ribbons, and bows. Sometimes just adding the additional lighted greenery is all the space needs. Garland looks so beautiful whether it’s in an entryway, on a fireplace mantle, on a console table, or on a buffet table. I don’t live in a two story home, but if I did, you could be sure to find it on my stairway wrapped around the rails! I also really love the string lights that have a twinkle effect to them. I have those lights on my dining room garland and feel it looks so elegant. It reminds me of the flicker of a candle. All of my garland is artificial, but you can also use real garland. I do not have what you would call a “green thumb”, so it’s in the best interest of the garland, that it be fake.
The only “live” greenery I will purchase and I absolutely love are hydrangeas! Hydrangeas are inexpensive and a perfect addition to your holiday decor! Since I decorate with whites and golds primarily, I buy the white ones. If your colors are more the traditional reds and greens, poinsettias would be a great option for you. I love them in my kitchen, but I also have a vase in my guest bathroom. I don’t usually decorate our bathrooms, but in our guest bathroom I will add the hydrangeas and some white Christmas tree hand towels that I picked up at Homegoods. Nothing extravagant, but it adds a little something special to that area.
Glittery branches in a vase are another decor item that I love for the holidays. I purchased mine years ago at Pottery Barn, but they are easy to make if you want a fun project! All you need are the branches, some glue, epson salt, and glitter! I hope to add a DIY tutorial on that in the coming days.
